Metro Markets’ 35th store opens in Thawra Street in Mohandessin on November 23rd 2009, capping a record year of expansion across Egypt serving customers’ increasing appetites for quality fresh food at affordable prices. Metro’s focus on freshness and customer service has sparked more requests for new supermarkets and larger retail stores to cover different cities in Egypt. Metro offers an increasingly large variety of fruit and vegetables, meat, fish and fresh bakery items baked in-store. A new organic section was introduced in early 2007 providing health conscious customers with a more natural diet choice. In less than 10 years Metro has become Egypt’s No.1 food retailer, serving more than 65,000 customers a day who make more than 2 million visits to Metro each month. 

The new Thawra store will be open 24 hours, 7 days a week and will provide the full range of Metro’s renowned services including, home deliveryand shop-and-drop. Customers can shop inside the store and Metro will take care of the delivery for them. More than 15,000 products will be displayed on the grocery shelves and in the fridges that have been imported directly from Italy to ensure the freshness of the fruits and vegetables as well as the meat and deli sections.

 The new store joins Metro’s network of supermarkets chosen in locations that are convenient for its customers: Greater Cairo (24 stores), Alexandria (4), Ismailia (1) Mansoura (1), Port Said (1), Sharm El Sheikh (2) and Hurghada (2)

In 2007, Metro won the International Quality Crown Award for Quality and Excellence at an international convention of quality experts in London on 24th September. ‘Metro is committed to promoting the quality culture with employees, suppliers and customers supported by the QC100 Total Quality Management Model,’ the International Quality Convention declared.
